Classroom Work

The Air Training Corps is not all about running around in combats and flying planes. Cadets also have to learn about things such as navigation, aircraft recognition and propulsion. This enables cadets to gain higher classifications, in order to progress through the variouys levels.

There are five different classifications in the Air Training Corps: Second Class Cadet; First Class Cadet; Leading Cadet; Senior Cadet and Staff Cadet. To gain these classifications cadets have to learn different skills which when mastered leads to an exam to gain the next level.

New Recruits or probationers, as they are more commonly called, start Initial Cadet Training. After their initial 3 months they become Second Class cadets and then sit a final exam to become First Class Cadets. Once this has been achieved they graduate from initial training and then are able to progress towards leading cadet then senior cadet finally staff cadet.

Once they have reached Leading cadet status the are then able to stand for promotion as a cadet corporal initially then work towards cadet Sergeant, cadet Flight Sergeant and Finally cadet Warrant Officer.
